Five people were injured in a two-vehicle accident east of Wausau Monday.

According to Hatley Fire Chief Randy Szew, the accident occurred shortly after 2:30 p.m. on the overpass above highway 29 and county road Y. “One party was making a left hand turn accessing highway 29 and another party was heading north on Y,” said Szew.

According to deputies at the scene, one of the vehicles caught fire after the collision.

All five people got out of the cars safely. They were transported, by ambulance, to Aspirus Wausau Hospital for treatment. The nature or extent of their injuries is not known.

The accident remains under investigation by the Wausau Police Department.
