Posted on September 7th, 2010 No Comments

A man was injured in a Wausau drunk driving crash Sunday morning.

According to officials with the Marathon County Sheriff’s Department, 33 year-old Israel Fernandez will face a third OWI charge after crashing into a tree Sunday. Police say Fernandez’s vehicle overturned after the crash, which occurred on South First Avenue shortly after 6:30 a.m.

A good Samaritan helped Fernandez from the vehicle after the crash. When police arrived on the scene Fernandez was transported by ambulance to Wausau Aspirus Hospital for a blood test. His blood alcohol content has not been made public, but police held Fernandez for several hours at the Marathon County jail until he was sober. He has been charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

Police say Fernandez has two prior OWI convictions, and additional charges are pending.
