The 63-year-old woman from Wausau removed from her truck from Moraine Lake in the township of Harrison Lake. She was accompanied by her 23-year-old son, who was responsible for pulling her from the water. The police received the emergency call just prior to 5 a.m. on June 6.

Although Lincoln County authorities have the results of an autopsy, they are not releasing those results. Some are worried that making public the findings would compromise the currently on-going investigation. Police said that they did intend on releasing the toxicology reports either this Friday or some time next week.

The woman’s son was taken to Ministry Sacred Heart Hospital in Tomahawk, Wisconsin, where he was treated for his injuries sustained during the incident.

In the town of Somo, in Lincoln County, a crash left three people injured.

The Lincoln County’s Sheriff County described the incident as a two-vehicle crash that occurred on Wednesday around 3:50 p.m. on Highway 8 at Garvin’s Place. After the two cars hit each other, one continued off of the road, eventually resting after hitting both a tree and telephone pole. An investigation is still underway to determine the exact cause of the accident. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

After Tomahawk’s firefighters aided two trapped people in the car that struck the tree and pole, a third was able to exit the vehicle unassisted. The driver of that car was taken to Aspirus Wausau Hospital via helicopter. It was announced that the driver’s injuries, although serious enough to warrant the air-lift, were not life threatening injuries. The two other passengers in that car sustained minor injuries. The driver of the second vehicle suffered no substantial injuries.

Effective since June 1, 2010, a new Wisconsin state law requires drivers to be covered by an adequate insurance policy.

The law poses to levy $500 fines for drivers caught without minimum coverage, as well as $700 fines if a citation is written for trying to use a fraudulent policy card. Drivers who have insurance, but cannot provide proof when asked, will be asked to pay $10. However, this fee can be waived if the driver returns to a law enforcement agency and provides subsequent proof of insurance.

According to state figures, 15% of drivers are current uninsured in Wisconsin. This is comparable to the national average, which includes now 49 states with required coverage.

New Hampshire is the only remaining state without any auto insurance law. Virginia allows drivers to drive without car insurance, but requires them to pay a $500 fee yearly. Although these laws are set in place, both states urge their road-bound citizens to purchase suitable insurance policies.

If you or someone you love have gotten caught up in the headache of auto insurance claims, and you feel that, somewhere in the process, you have been wronged, there may be legal recourse you can undertake. The Wausau car accident lawyers of Habush, Habush & Rottier, S.C., are here to provide you with legal advice for your case.

Deer are the subject of concern in today’s warning from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.

According to the Department of Transportation’s announcement, June is the worst or next to worse month for deer-related car accidents. Their increased activity due to does looking for locations to give birth and fawns moving away from their mothers.

Law enforcement officials have joined in the warning, claiming that, in 2009 alone, 16,338 collisions with deer occurred in Wisconsin. In the highest accident-prone county, Dane County, 873 accidents were reported. In Shawano County, which ranks as third on the list of highest incident counties, over half of the total accidents in the county, 648, were because of crashes with deer.

Police want motorists to be especially careful during early morning hours and in the evening, as these times are markedly more active for deer, and making it more likely that a collision could occur. They advised that, if a deer is found by a road, blasting the vehicle’s horn in one long sound should be sufficient to scare the deer away from the road.
